How do we embody our name&#8230; our identity? How do we \nhonour it? Is it a name that gives us freedom, or restrains us? In light\n of what Austen Ivereigh (the biographer of Pope Francis, &#8216;the Great \nReformer\u2019), revealed to us about CLC during his talk to us\u2026 that it was a\n Christian community that that he had hardly heard about, even working \nin Catholic circles in Rome\u2026 many CLC members here at the Assembly came \nto see CLC as a united family striving to be rooted in the realities of \ntheir societies in apostolic ways, but in quiet ways. That though we are\n not well known in many church circles we are still authentic and \npresent, if not flashy\u2026 that perhaps this is part of our identity\u2026 we \nare a modest, but still very active and committed presence within our \nchurch. The fruits of our morning prayers on our CLC identity were \nshared by all in our morning plenary within a circle in the midst of our\n presence, which you will see in the accompanying photo. Some thought \nprovoking responses were questions of our very name\u2026 &#8216;Christian Life \nCommunity,\u2019 which was felt to be too general and unspecific. There were \nsome who felt it did not really reveal anything unique about who we \nwere\u2026 a community of faith-filled people continually striving to discern\n God\u2019s will in their lives towards apostolic orientation through the \nIgnatian charism. There were others who felt that rather than change our\n name, we needed to embody it more fully\u2026 that our identity was not \nsolely attached to our name, but in how we incarnated Christ within it, \nas a community.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the afternoon we then entered prayerfully in our weaknesses as a \ncommunity\u2026. in prayerfully acknowledging what paralyzes us in the \ncontext of wasted bread, dull tasting salt, and the hidden light. The \ngrace we were asking for in this time of prayer was for an inner \nknowledge of the disorder of our sin as a global and local community, \nand for the grace to reconcile ourselves to Christ within our \ncommunities. Our facilitator of this exercise stated that the general \nsin of Jesuits was individualism\u2026 in their in ability or unwillingness, \ngenerally speaking, to collaborate with others. What are the sins of \nCLC? Among the fruits of our prayer it was in complaining too often; \nclerical dependence\u2026 in depending upon the priests within their midst to\n lead them and solves their difficulties; in being too enclosed within \nones small circle within CLC; excessive modesty in a sense of a lack of \nleadership skills on behalf of CLC; wanting Christ, but on our own \nterms; forgetting Christ in the midst of our administrative and \napostolic focus; etc. These fruits of our prayer on the \u2018sins\u2019 of CLC \nwere not to be presented in our afternoon plenary in words this time. \nEach of the 30 groups of 6 or 7 persons were asked to form a sculpture \nof the sin which they shared in common from their spiritual \nconversation. And so during our plenary half of the groups formed a \ntheir practiced human sculptures conveying the CLC \u2018sin\u2019 that resonated \nwith them as a group, while the other participants walked amongst them \nas if in a museum. My small group chose to convey the sin of lack of \nprayerful openness and availability to the call of CLC \nco-responsibility, with two members in pose of reaching out and calling \nthe others to join them in co-responsibility, while the others posed in \nvarious positions of resistance, fear, busyness with other tasks, \nexcessive modesty in responding, etc. Walking through all of our human \nmade sculptures made for a very powerful &#8211; and uncomfortable &#8211; \nexperience. I do not have images of our self-scultpures attached here \nbecause we were told not to make any photographs of these due to the \nvulnerabilities expressed in our poses. It was certainly that\u2026 powerful \nin the witnessing of our vulnerabilities and difficulties living our CLC\n committement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our groups were then given candles to light and manna from heaven to \ncarry us forward, with which we processed towards Mass of \nReconciliation. Our day ended with Reconciliation after dinner, in light\n of attempting to name our paralysis\u2019 &#8211; both personal and within CLC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because our \u2018work\u2019 these days are centred around our small groups, \nMichelle, Catherine and I do not see a whole lot of each other\u2026 we are \ncompletely immersed in the broader community of our world CLC World \nAssembly delegates. This is a very good thing. We will come back \ntogether within our CLC Canada community to reflect and share with all \nof you all the richer for this broader immersion:) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tomorrow will be Day #8! The time goes by so quickly.
