National Calendar Guidelines

Why are we doing this?

The Purpose of the National Calendar is to unite us with each other locally, regionally, nationally and even globally. Its aim is to inspire and encourage a sense of connection and collaboration. It gives our members and friends an opportunity to announce, register for and pray about events that are happening for CLC in Canada.

Mission Statment of the Communications Working Group

The Christian Life Community (CLC) National Communications Working Group is composed of members from across different regions who volunteer their gifts for the documentation and support of the life of our national body.

The continuing evolution of CLC as a national community calls forward a more intentional communication effort. We currently coordinate and maintain our three platforms: newsletter and mailing list, social media presence, and website. Using these platforms, we provide access to regional and national news, events and formation materials.

Our core mission is to discern, facilitate and provide appropriate communication media that enhances, supports, and assists communities. To achieve this, we collaborate with all CLC Canada members. We embrace the communication technologies available to us and are grateful for these gifts.

What goes into the National Calendar

Both events and deadlines may appear in the calendar. The following list is meant to motivate you to send events that you become aware of to be included on the calendar. If your event does not match the categories on the list, but you consider it would still be relevant for CLC Canada’s members to be aware of, the National Communications Working Group (NCWG) will consider your suggestion and update the guidelines accordingly.

  • Events where any CLC member may participate and is relevant to all.
    For example:
    • A National Formation Webinar
    • An event organized by the Canadian Jesuits
    • An open Spiritual Exercises retreat (weekend, 8-days, 30-days)
  • Events where only some CLC members may participate, but about which awareness by anyone in CLC has a reasonable purpose (purposes include national awareness, fostering national social connections, invitation to keep the event in our prayers).
    For example:
    • A come-and-see meeting for people interested in joining CLC
    • A CLC Canada General Council in-person meeting
    • A Regional commitment ceremony
    • A Regional ExCo meeting
    • A Regional Social, Formation, or Mission Event (if the event is intended only for people in a Region or City, it can still go in the calendar for other regions to keep on their prayer or simply for awareness)
    • A World, Regional, or National Assembly
    • A North American regional formation event, or a representatives meeting
  • Deadlines relevant to CLC members, communities, regions, and the national body
    For example:
    • The registration deadline for an event on the calendar
    • Submission deadlines for community responses regarding a World Projects document, a Synod, a regional or a national consultation, etc.
    • Deadline for submitting updated community information to Regional Council
    • Yearly deadline for submitting membership fees
    • Nomination deadlines for an open position, like Regional Representative to General Council, Community representative to the National Assembly, National Representatives to the World Assembly, etc.

What does not go in the calendar?

Some events and deadlines may not be immediately relevant to the national CLC body, but do not let this stop you: If your suggestion is not explicitly included on this list please do not hesitate to submit it regardless.

  • Birthdays of individual CLC members
  • Individual CLC Community Meetings which are not open for new people to come-and-see

How to add something to the calendar?

While we publish the calendar for anyone to see, only the NCWG and people appointed by the NCWG in each region will add or edit events. To straightforward the process, if you have an event that you think should be included on our calendar, please email events@christianlifecommunity.ca with the following information:

  • NAME of the event or deadline. For example, “CLC World Assembly”
  • DATE of the event or deadline. If there is a particular time or timespan associated with the event, include it.
    • If your email does not include the specific time of the event/deadline, we will add it to the calendar as a whole-day event/deadline. For example, if you say “December 24, 2025”.
    • If your email includes only one specific time:
      • If it’s an event, we will consider that as the start time of the event, and will add it to the calendar as if it lasts for 1 hour.
      • If it’s a deadline, we will add it to the calendar as a 15-minute item that ends on the time indicated.
    • If your email includes a specific time range, we will consider that as the time span of the event that will appear in the calendar. Please include the time zone of the event. For example, “March 12, 2025, from 3 pm to 5 pm Pacific”.
    • If your email includes a time range that spans through multiple days but does not include both a start and end specific time of day, we will add the event as a whole-day event that spans from the starting date until the ending date. For example, “August 3 to August 13, 2023”.
  • (optional) A DESCRIPTION of the event besides the name/title. The description may include a webpage link to access further information about the event or to register for it.
  • SCOPE of the event. Please pick one of the following tags:
    • “World CLC”
    • “National CLC”
    • “General Council”
    • One of our regions: “Rockies Region”, “Prairie Region”, “Central Region”, “Atlantic Region”
    • For events open to CLC members but organized outside CLC, like events of the Canadian Jesuits, use “Others”
  • (optional) If the event is open for people to participate or register, please include either a contact person and email, or a webpage where to register (for example, an Eventbrite link). Please consider that this information will be available on the calendar for anyone to see.
    • Do not include contact information if there are restrictions for registration beyond CLC membership (for example, if the event is only open to a specific region). In that case, please use other means to share the registration information, like your regional reps. The event will still appear in the calendar for awareness.

For example, the following is a good example of an event email. Of course you can add more information or greetings, but we kindly ask you to make sure that at least the information in the example is in your email.
